towering shrines
scrape the tortured sky
concealed in a funeral shroud of mist
a battle cry
born of ice and snow
a mournful ancient dirge of howling wind
trough the winding passes
the chanting rises
evoking the ancient power
the union of earth and sky
here we stand on this jagged mass of stone
the very spine of the world
and now bear witness to the awakening
and know, the end is near

visions of ice, lake of black night
riding for dawn for the sake of his kind
rivers of blood, horde of the beast
beating of shields, gnashing of teeth
return from the waste, the golden crane flies
lord of the lakes from a forgotten time
resigned to his fate, riding alone
he forfeits his life in spite of the throne
one with the blade, sworn sword of the witch
seeking the void and the cold it permits
secrets revealed when his aura is read
seven towers in ruin circle his head
borderland armies will all bend the knee
last of his line, fallen malkieri
sheathing the blade, he surrenders his life
in turn slits the throat of the lord of the blight
armies gather
behind the banner
the golden crane
will fly again
waging a one man war
riding alone against the shadow
death is lighter than a feather
duty is heavier than a mountain

the bones of our fathers rot in the soil
the bark of their flesh has weathered and split
the sap of their life blood now pools in the altar
their swords and their axes have no use left
and what of the mothers?
weeping alone in the forest at night
embraced by the starlight
concealed in a wooded sanctuary
their hearths cold and empty
the crops in the field whither and die
a black heart atop the throne
bleeding them dry from the inside out
sons and daughters awaken from slumber
reclaim the steel that is rightfully yours
rekindle the flames that once swept the kingdom
sever the head and topple the crown
when once more triumphant
dismantle the kingdom stone by stone
feed the wealthy to the wolves
tear down the cities, leave only bone
the forest will claim them
nature will balance the scales once more
return to the ocean
return to the soil as your fathers have done

the horizon swallows the sun
I stand unmoving and insignificant
as the night sky reveals its beauty
a tapestry of constellations
of piercing lights and depth-less dark
a guide through barren wastelands
the final sight of many dying eyes
and so it passes over me
burning infinite
each night I witness the gods
this turning wheel of stars

pillars of smoke
spiraling into oblivion
the scent thick in night air
entranced by the flames
dancing defiantly
bonfires raging against the darkness
the old gods stir
answering the call
dominion of the rocks and oak and soil
the golden queen
awakens from her slumber
and turns her gaze upon the horde of night
eternal war
the wheel turns again
the balance shifts in favour of the light
the lunar king
lord of the night
when winter comes again his armies rise
waking the spirits
the power from the ashes
primal forces flowing in the blood
the hide drums echo
bid farewell to winter
welcome the shining golden sun
she climbs to her apex
the earth revolves
and life and death repeat again
the cycle starts anew
shattered sunlight breaching dawn
with the smoke now clearing
all that's lost will be reborn
bring forth golden flowers
cast them down into the wells
the crystal stars now fading
the drums replaced by morning bells

PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter.
